What is the “Blue Flag”?

The “Blue Flag” is an internationally recognized eco-label awarded to beaches and marinas that meet stringent criteria for cleanliness, organization, safety, and environmental management. The award is valid for one year and is renewed following annual evaluations.

Greece: 2nd Worldwide in 2024

Greece maintains its second-place ranking globally with a total of 652 awards: 625 beaches, 18 marinas, and 9 tourist boats. The country accounts for 15% of the world’s awarded beaches, according to the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Halkidiki: Still Leading – Municipality of Kassandra Dominates with 32 Blue Flags

Once again, Halkidiki holds the crown with 95 beaches awarded the Blue Flag in 2024. Yet the spotlight this year shines brightly on the Municipality of Kassandra, which leads the way with an outstanding 32 awarded beaches — the highest in the region.
This achievement reflects Kassandra’s ongoing investment in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, environmental responsibility, and modern beach infrastructure. From the luxurious shores of Sani and Pefkochori to the charming coastline of Afytos, Hanioti, and Polichrono, the area offers exceptional variety and accessibility for visitors.
